Small project spaces and galleries can be big on exciting curation. One of our favourites: Diskurs Berlin.
The name says it all. All activities at this gallery are designed to spark discourse. Besides exhibitions, the space in Mitte also offers a residency programme for artists. And they’re in close contact with the art scene in Korea, presenting many exhibitions there, too. They bring artists, curators and collectors together across borders.
Founder and director Jung Me Chai is from Seoul herself. She trained as an artist in Amsterdam and is responsible for the programme — meaning she’s the curatorial brains behind current exhibition God’s Biometric Data. Works by artists Amit Goffer and Erik Andersen deal with philosophical questions of existence, particularly when it comes to the unique biometrics of every human. Andersen’s minimalist sculptures, with their perfect, geometrical forms, contradict any natural diversity. Yet, they also hold a mirror up to visitors. A wonderful gallery space and an intriguing exhibition.
