Die Schwartzsche Villa präsentiert eine Einzelausstellung der international renommierten Künstlerin und Fotografin Christina Dimitriadis.
Die von Christine Nippe kuratierte Schau feiert Premiere mit einer neuen Werkserie, die zwischen 2021 und 2025 in Griechenland entstanden ist. Die Künstlerin Christina Dimitriadis, in Thessaloniki geboren, konzentriert sich seit 2015 auf die Natur und die Bedeutung des Mittelmeers mit einem Fokus auf das Ägäische Meer. Mit der Geschichte, den Mythen und den
ständig wechselnden Kulturen wird die Ägäis als einzigartiges maritimes Umfeld hervorgehoben. Gleichzeitig machen die Migrationsströme, der Handel und der kulturelle Austausch es noch außergewöhnlicher. Die Fotografien der Künstlerin werfen Fragen zur Geopolitik und zur Nachhaltigkeit dieser Region Südeuropas auf. Wie Christina Dimitriadis anmerkt: „In einer Zeit rascher Veränderungen bleibt die Interpretation der historischen Vergangenheit fluid und schafft vielfältige Erzählungen, die
nicht nur zum Verständnis der Gegenwart, sondern auch der Zukunft beitragen.“
Mit ihrer neuen Arbeit geht Dimitriadis auf Spurensuche auf den antiken Transportwegen des Marmors. Die griechisch-deutsche Künstlerin versteht den weißen Stein als Symbol für die antike Welt und macht dabei zentrale anthropologische Mechanismen sichtbar: „Marmor repräsentiert den menschlichen Wunsch nach Schönheit und Pracht und spiegelt gleichzeitig die Sehnsucht des Menschen wider, trotz aller Hindernisse etwas zu schaffen. Ein Marmorblock enthält das Potenzial für jede menschliche Idee
und kann daher auch Böses in sich tragen.“
Christina Dimitriadis zählt zu den Berliner Künstler:innen, die weltweit ausstellen, aber an ihrem Lebensmittelpunkt keinem großen Publikum bekannt sind. Doch jetzt zeigt Dimitriadis vier Monate lang eine Soloschau in der Schwartzschen Villa. Die 1967 in Thessaloniki geborene Künstlerin hat griechischen Marmor als Ausgangspunkt für eine Werkserie genommen, mit der sie Mythen und Migrationsrouten des Mittelmeers erkundet.
