High times: Café Canna serves up CBD treats in Prenzlauer Berg

Since July, Prenzlauer Berg’s Café Canna has been offering food and drinks with the cannabis plant-derived component CBD.

So what is CBD? Well, it’s short for cannabidiol, a component of the cannabis plant. While THC is psychoactive, CBD doesn’t get you high. Rather, it’s anti-inflammatory and eases muscular cramps. Shops such as Tom Hemp’s in Kreuzberg or The Hemp Concept in Mitte specialise in the semi-legal substance, but the new café on Lychener Straße goes a step further. The café adds CBD oil to beverages such as coffee, tea or hot chocolate, and there are long drinks with hemp oil, hemp fritters, cheesecake with a hemp-seed base, hemp pesto, or cannabis honey. All in a hip and homely setting. What’s not to love?
