Berlin’s art scene is world class. Here at tip Berlin, we know what’s going on in the museums, galleries, and hidden little art spaces of our city. This week: news from the Jewish Museum, awards for independent art spaces, and Berliners exhibiting at the Venice Biennale.
From the museums
The state museum Berlinische Galerie and its Lotte Laserstein exhibition will remain closed until at least May 15th due to structural analysis. At the Jewish Museum, director Peter Schäfer has extended his contract for another year to complete plans such as the children’s museum. The Museum of European Cultures in Dahlem is celebrating its twenty-year anniversary with a block party on May 12th, from 2pm onwards.
From the art scene
At Lichtenberg’s BLO-Ateliers (Kaskelstraße 55), the ‘Photo Weekend’ from May 17th to 19th will present analogue photography. Great news for a number of other initiatives and project spaces: this year, Apartment Project, Kotti-Shop, District, Spor Klübü, Kreuzberg Pavillon and Singuhr have received awards celebrating their work.
Berlin in Venice
Many Berlin-based artists are exhibiting work at the Venice Biennale, among them Ed Atkins, Maria Loboda, and Jeppe Hein. Curator Bonaventure Ndikung is involved at the Finnish pavilion, sound artist Carsten Nicolai is playing for Mongolia. We’ll be following proceedings through our Twitter account @zitty_Art.
