Digital dancing: Berlin’s clubs launch collective streaming platform

Breaking (good) news from Berlin’s Club Commission! In an act of virtual genius, the city’s clubs have devised a way to keep us dancing in the face of corona lockdown.

Under the banner #UnitedWeStream, the commission will launch a joint streaming platform tomorrow, Wednesday March 18th. Over the next few weeks, some of Berlin’s biggest clubs, in cooperation with Reclaim Club Culture and Arte Concert, will open their digital doors at 7pm each day to homes around the world, broadcasting live sets lasting several hours from big-name DJs.

In return, remote revellers can support the cause by purchasing a ‚virtual club ticket‘, with all proceeds going directly to a relief fund set up to support clubs, artists and event organisers in need.

Supporting clubs and their employees

The coronavirus pandemic is just the latest crisis for a beleaguered club scene fighting the relentless tide of gentrification and eviction. When all nightspots were ordered to close last Friday due to the encroaching pandemic, 9000 club employees were instantly without work.

This latest initiative gives us all a chance to support these precious dance institutions and the people who depend on them. Time to dig deep and dance around that bedroom.
