Foodflash: What’s new to eat in Berlin this week?

We know what’s new to eat in Berlin. This week: a long-awaited opening, a brewery moving locations, and Pakistan comes to Kreuzberg.

Urban-rural relations

After stops in Norway, the Faroe Islands and at Noma’s brief stint in Mexico, young chef Vadim Otto Ursus has built a laboratory for exploring food in the Schorfheide region. Now, he’s adding a small restaurant with just 19 seats. It’s called Otto, it’s in Prenzlauer Berg, and we think it’s this autumn’s most exciting opening.

Address: Oderberger Straße 56, Prenzlauer Berg | Fri-Mon 6pm-10pm

Directions: U-Bahn station Eberswalder Str.

Colourful food for the soul: Mama Shabz’s Pakistani home cooking has moved to Reichenberger Straße (Photo: Shabnam Syed / Mama Shabz).

After many a night on the street food markets of Berlin, it’s time: Mama Shabz have opened their own proper café! They’ve moved to Reichenberger Straße, which is rapidly becoming Kreuzberg’s new hot restaurant mile, with the openings of Chungking Noodles and Mani in Pasta imminent. We can’t wait to feast on samosas, chaats, and Shabz’s delicious curries daily. And the best bit? There’ll be something new to eat every week with Mama’s rotating menu!

Address: Reichenberger Straße 61a, Kreuzberg

Directions: U-Bahn station Kottbusser Tor

Berliner Weisse on wooden table. Berliner Berg is building new brewery with restaurant new to eat
Berliner Berg is finally building a larger brewery, not far from Treptower Park (Photo: Berliner Berg).

Currently, microbrewery Berliner Berg only brew its Weiße locally — in a backyard in Neukölln. But, rather excitingly, they’re now starting to build a brewery with a restaurant not far from Treptower Park.
